PINEWOOD DERBY

FOOD SIGN UP - Please Sign Up for bringing food to supplement Pack Hot-Dogs HERE.

RULES - Please carefully observe all pinewood construction rules.   Cars will be inspected on check-in to ensure they have followed all rules, otherwise, they are subject to award disqualification.   The last thing we want is a boys car being disqualified.   Please review the OFFICIAL 2012 PINEWOOD  RULES prior to starting construction.

WHO DOES THE WORK? - The more the boys can do, the better!   Limit parent involvement to helping and guiding as much as possible.   This will allow your Cub to experience the joy of designing and creating their own masterpiece.  Then, when they arrive at the Derby, they know they're holding something that they created themselves.   Sure, a parent can step in and make a much nicer looking, faster car, but what boys really want is to learn to do it more themselves!   Please consider this, as you work with your Cubs.   As a minimum guideline as to parent help, please refer to the official rules above.

CLASSIC CARS - Any cars which were created without power tools (with the exception of routing for weights and wheel prep) are in the "Classic Category".   Some of the superlatives below are for classic cars only!    Just a few years ago, no power tools were used.  Boys would use Coping Saws, knives to whittle, and sandpaper by hand.   The experience of a boy working on his car a little bit at a time, each night for a week or two will create a fond memory for a lifetime!

SUPERLATIVES - All cars will be judged and awards will be issued for winners of the following superlative categories.
  • Best Of Show
  • Most Unusual Car
  • Most Patriotic
  • Best Animal Car
