Some boys have a goal of getting this award, which is a patch recognizing boys who get all 20 Webelos Activity Badges. I have made a spreadsheet of each boys awards, and have indicated where ones will be done by the Den. You can see which your son would need to complete at home, if he would like the award. Use the link below to view the spreadsheet, let me know if anything is wrong.

ABOUT TROOP 337
I am the Scoutmaster of this new troop, started several months ago. Although it would be a natural choice for your son to cross over into Troop 337, it may not be the right choice for every boy/family. Troop 337 is a unique troop, which is very focused, and does things a little differently than other Troops, in order to reach certain boys. Here's the bottom line on some of those differences:
- High Adventure - As time goes on and our Troop grows, we will be doing more and more physically demanding high adventure activities, even for new boys crossing over. Already the Troop has planned a survivor campout, a 14 mile hike followed by a long canoe trek, camping on the beach with no tents, and is planning another survival campout, and all-night man-hunt on an island. It is not in the makeup of all boys to enjoy this sort of thing.
- Good Behavior - The founding boys of the Troop decided that good behavior was an asbolute requirement in the Troop. If boys have a behavior problem, there is a procedure in place to discuss the issue, come up with a plan to correct, and then, if the problem cannot be corrected, the boy may be asked to leave the troop. When boys first join, they are given a chance to learn this, but in short time are expected to behave..
- Commitment - Boys are expected to attend all meetings and all campouts/events unless there's an important, direct conflict. This is not the kind of troop where boys can come & go as they please, other troops encourage this, but we believe the commitment level is important to the leadership and responsibility training we are doing with the boys.
- Personal Responsibility - Boys are expected to keep their own Troop Notebook, manage their own advancements, schedules, dues, permission forms, etc. Parents are asked to support the boys, but to allow them to do this themselves.
- Parent Involvement - Parents in our Troop do not camp with the Troop, unless there are special arrangements made, and this would not be a continuing thing. Most campouts are Boy Scouts only, with trained male leaders attending. A few campouts will be designated as Family Campouts. This is to keep the focus on the troop being led and operated primarily by boys, with mentoring male leaders in the background. Boys are expected to be very independent in the troop.
- Costs - High Adventure is expensive - Dues are $10/month. Campouts vary in costs, but with gas prices, it can get pricy. There are opportunities for fundraising for each scout. To see examples of costs, please visit previous events on the events page.
Please visit www.troop337cfc.com, and visit the "About Us" page to look at the Parent Information Form, and the Scout Agreement Form. |
CROSSOVER PLANS
Other Troops
I know a lot of other Troops in the area who run a more normal program, that might be more well suited to some boys and families. I plan on setting up visits for those interested in visiting others as well.
Please Let Me Know Your Intentions
I would like each family to review the Troop 337 information to the left, and then use THIS FORM to indicate your crossover plans ASAP. This will help me to plan Troop visits as needed.
